The last episode ended when I got married.
Now we jump forward 17 years, several homes and two children later where another chapter ended in an amicable divorce.
This episode covers the process I went through juggling emotional, financial and legal aspects of coming out of a marriage. It's like trying to align a venn diagram to maximise the centre spread.
Spoiler alert: no one wins. But you can at least try to mitigate your loses, on all levels.
Whatever your situation, I hope this episode helps spark some thoughts and questions, and possibly offer a framework for thinking about your priorities. But please, always seek professional advice if you are going through - or about to go through - a divorce. And especially if children are involved.
Notes from the episode:
Here is the Dave Chappelle clip played in the episode:
This is from his special Deep in the Heart of Texas: Dave Chappelle Live at Austin City Limits, available on Netflix
Here is a quote that I read out:
“Man proceeds in the fog. But when he looks back to judge people of the past, he sees no fog on their path. From his present, which was their faraway future, their path looks perfectly clear to him, good visibility all the way. Looking back, he sees the path, he sees the people proceeding, he sees their mistakes, but not the fog.”
